“Journey through Art” at CMC from December 14th to January 15th

The Ponta Delgada Municipal Culture Center (CMC) is going on a “Journey through Art” with Ugolina Margarida Ferreira Batista from December 14, 2024, to January 15, 2025.
This exhibition, which is scheduled to open on December 13 at 6:30 p.m., consists of various canvases and porcelain pieces that illustrate this artist’s permanent “search for plastic exploration experiences.”
For Ugolina Batista, “the works presented, both because of their diversity and because of the boundaries they create between them, reflect a personal position” and affirm that “all art is a challenge and a victory.”
The author of this exhibition showed a special intuition for the plastic arts from a very young age and began to dedicate herself to the art world from the 1960s onwards, thus building a long and recognized artistic career.
This Pontadelgadian artist has held several solo and group exhibitions, including the 1956 joint exhibition organized at the Liceu for the Portuguese Youth, where she won 1st prize for “Flowers.”
In 2011, the Ponta Delgada City Council awarded Ugolina Batista the “Diploma of Municipal Recognition” for her services to education and citizenship. She is also represented in private collections in the Azores, on the Portuguese mainland, and abroad.

Translated to English as a community outreach program from the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) and the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures Department (MCLL) as part of Bruma Publication and ADMA (Azores-Diaspora Media Alliance) at California State University, Fresno, PBBI thanks the Luso-American Education Foundation for sponsoring FILAMENTOS.
