VALENTINE’S DAY

Foi pensando em ti
e descendo nos vulcões extintos,
bem no fulcro do teu peito,
que encontrei essa mina
irisada de perfeita.

Um coração em repouso lume
feito estrela cadente, esse coração
enamora com magia incandescente.

O caos, agonia, o medo,
não fazem parte do coração
neutro, fraterno e forte;
que reluz como talha dourada,

na navalhada da noite,
na borrasca do deserto,
na solitária madrugada.

O coração tudo pode,
e o amor vem e coroa
esse coração quando nobre.

THINKING OF YOU
Valentine’s Day

Thinking of you,
I went down into the old,
extinct volcanoes
at the center of your chest,
and found there
a seam of iridescent light.
A heart at rest, quietly burning,
like a falling star,
this heart
draws you in
with its incandescent pull.
Chaos, agony, fear
have no claim here.
This heart is calm,
open-handed, strong,
shining like something
finely made,
under the sharp cut of night,
through desert storms,
into the lonely hour before dawn.
This heart can do anything.
And love arrives
to place its crown
only
on a heart like this.

RoseAngelina Baptista, poet

*Evelyn De Morgan ( 1855–1919) was a painter who defied the expectations of her class and gender to become one of the most impressive artists of a generation. Her richly coloured canvases featuring beautifully draped figuresdeliver messages of feminism, spirituality, and the rejection of war and material wealth, making them incredibly relevant today.
