The Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive is organizing the series “Writers of the Diaspora,” dedicated to the cultural and literary voices of Portuguese communities living abroad who write from—and reflect upon—the Azorean cultural legacy. These are authors who, while residing beyond the insular space, use writing to construct a terrain of memory, identity, and dialogue between cultures.
Diniz Borges devoted himself to the teaching of Portuguese language and culture at the secondary-school level for 22 years at Tulare Union High School and the colllege level at the College of the Sequoias for 20 years, and for the last 8 years at the university level, through California State University, Fresno, developing projects aimed at projecting the values of Azorean communities within American society. His work explores and deepens themes such as emigration, the cultural diversity of the United States, and the Azorean cultural inheritance.
Diniz Borges has published essays, presented critical analyses in academic and literary journals, and participated in numerous conferences and colloquia both in the diaspora and in the Azores. Beyond his intellectual production, he is also a regular contributor to the local press, helping to broaden and sustain dialogue between diaspora communities and the islands.
