The House Where Words Keep Watch: Conversations, memory, and the living presence of Álamo Oliveira

Today, Saturday the 24th, at 7:00 p.m., we resume our “In the Álamo Library” conversation series with Rui Melo (visual arts professor, painter, and musician).

As always, these conversations aim to reveal a more personal side of our guests, exploring their individual paths and their relationship with the poet whose work and legacy anchor this space.

Because the interviews are recorded live—and in order to ensure the best possible technical conditions so they can later be shared in other formats—we kindly ask those who wish to attend to confirm their presence by email at jframinho@gmail.com.

We also remind the public that the Álamo Oliveira Library, located at the Parish Council offices, makes available the poet’s personal book collection, generously donated by him. These works may be borrowed or consulted on site, where visitors are welcome to work and use the available equipment. The library is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Álamo Oliveira—one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Azorean literature—was a poet, novelist, and cultural figure whose writing is deeply marked by insularity, exile, memory, and social consciousness. His work continues to resonate across generations, particularly among readers in the Azores and the diaspora, making this library not only a place of books but a living space of dialogue, reflection, and continuity.
