The arts association MiratecArts is preparing the third season of its project Labregos, an initiative designed to encourage research and inspire contemporary art through Azorean legends—while also identifying emerging talent among younger generations—on the island of Pico.
The first season of Labregos took place in Madalena in 2019–2020, followed by a second season in Lajes do Pico in 2023–2024. Now, in 2026, the association is returning to basics, once again seeking out new voices and faces for performance, theater, and film.
“Through workshops, we’re able to foster the development of this project while also discovering new talent,” said Terry Costa, artistic director of MiratecArts. “With a smile, a gesture, or a look into the camera—whether photographic or video—we can uncover future faces for performance projects, video art, advertising, or even casting calls for television series and film. This is an opportunity to set the mind on the right creative path.”
The project is open to anyone age 16 and older. Interested participants are asked to contact the organization by email at info@mirateca.com, providing their name, phone number, and date of birth. They will then receive full details about the program, which will culminate in a final event planned for the spring break period.
“Labregos has no gender, so everyone is welcome,” Costa said, underscoring the project’s inclusive spirit. No prior experience—or traditional prerequisites—is required. The initiative is open to anyone who wishes to take part, mirroring the broader mission of MiratecArts’ Azorean artists network, where creatives from across the region are encouraged to register and participate in the association’s year-round programming.
