The Word in Passage – A Palavra em Travessia reúne poemas clássicos da tradição americana e anglófona, apresentados no inglês original e acompanhados por recriações poéticas em português de RoseAngelina Baptista.
Mais do que um exercício de tradução, este trabalho assume-se como um ato de escuta literária, em que cada poema atravessa a língua sem perder a sua singularidade, encontrando no português não um espelho, mas um eco criativo. A passagem entre línguas torna-se, assim, um espaço de hospitalidade, diálogo e reinvenção, onde a tradição se renova pela convivência entre vozes.

The Word in Passage brings together classical poems from the American and Anglophone tradition, presented in their original English alongside Portuguese poetic re-creations by RoseAngelina Baptista.
Rather than pursuing literal equivalence, this section embraces translation as listening, resonance, and creative hospitality. Each poem crosses linguistic borders without surrendering its identity, finding in Portuguese not a replica but a renewed field of meaning—where tradition is preserved through transformation and dialogue.

Esta secção integra a missão de Filamentos, publicação do Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) da California State University, Fresno, enquanto espaço dedicado à circulação crítica da literatura, à tradução como criação e ao fortalecimento de pontes culturais entre línguas, geografias e comunidades académicas e diaspóricas.
A nossa visão é afirmar a literatura como território de encontro, onde a tradução não apaga diferenças, mas as acolhe como forma de conhecimento, ampliando o acesso aos grandes textos da tradição literária para novos públicos e gerações.

This section is part of the mission of Filamentos, a publication of the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) at California State University, Fresno, dedicated to the critical circulation of literature, translation as a creative act, and the building of cultural bridges across languages, geographies, and academic and diasporic communities.
Our vision is to affirm literature as a space of encounter, where translation does not erase difference but welcomes it as a form of knowledge, expanding access to foundational texts of the literary tradition for new readers and future generations.
