The AnimaPIX festival, dedicated to illustrated books and animated films, presents 75 works on the big screen.
“AnimaPIX is a unique festival, with daytime events open to the general public, and many more that require registration to participate,” says Terry Costa, the festival’s founder and artistic director, who is presenting film screenings from December 2 to 5 at the Madalena Auditorium Library.
With only two feature-length film screenings, the festival focuses on short films and invites the general public to special events at 10 a.m., as well as schools.
Highlights of the public events include, on the 3rd, the most renowned Portuguese animation filmmakers, Abi Feijó and Regina Pessoa, who will present their works from the last 30 years in person. With hundreds of awards from the four corners of the world, the duo has also received the Miratecarts Atlante Award, thus connecting them to the festival and the island for several years. Regina Pessoa is the festival’s patron and illustrated the poster for the tenth edition.
On the 4th, the public presentation will be of the most awarded film of the year, including the Oscar for Best Animation, “Flow” by Gints Zilbalodis. Also on the 4th, filmmaker Cláudio Jordão will be present to show his latest work, “Vasco da Gama, O Mar Infinito,” and Antonio Alves will present the short film “Doce Amanhã,” with a screening at 2:30 p.m. in the Madalena Auditorium.
On Friday, December 5, five young filmmakers, winners of the AnimaPIX Award from 2021 to 2025, will visit the island of Pico to talk about the new wave of Portuguese animation, with an event at Cella Bar at 4:30 p.m. Alexandra Ramires, Alice Eça Guimarães, João Gonzalez, Laura Gonçalves, and Maria Trigo Teixeira will present their films at 10 a.m. in the Madalena Auditorium.
AnimaPIX is a MiratecArts project in partnership with the Madalena City Council and made possible with the support of the Regional Directorate for Culture – Government of the Azores. You can follow the festival on its official Facebook page: animapixfestival.
