Birds and Arts invade the Municipality of Lajes do Pico

It’s the Azores Birdwatching Arts Festival—a festival that aims to promote birdwatching and encourage it through educational arts-based dynamics.

Art in conversation and exhibitions, including the work of Sofia Santana and Maria Margarida Vieira, and a flag-shaped photography installation that takes over the entire whaling village, with images of birds captured by the lenses of André Vieira, Bruno Pereira, João Quaresma, Nuno Bicudo, Nuno Gonçalves, Olivier Coucelos, Pedro Madruga, Pedro Silva, and Valter Medeiros.

Conferences in schools and book launches, including “A Aventura do Jaime” (Jaime’s Adventure) by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, and “Passarinhos dos Açores” (Birds of the Azores) by Sofia Goulart and Rúben Coelho.

The Municipal Auditorium of Lajes do Pico will also host the performance “Pássaros e Cogumelos” (Birds and Mushrooms), with pianist Joana Gama, and the film “As Aves” (The Birds) by Pedro Magano.

There are events for the young and the experienced, as well as for anyone who wants to try birdwatching for the first time or is already an expert, with meetings at Moinho do Juncal in Lajes do Pico.

The Azores Birdwatching Arts Festival is a MiratecArts project with the Municipality of Lajes do Pico, taking place throughout the municipality from November 17 to 23, as well as observation events on the islands of Pico, Faial, Terceira, and São Miguel on the last day of the festival.
