Marta Miranda is the unmistakable voice and figurehead of OqueStrada, a project that has become a benchmark for new Portuguese urban music. After her success in the Música no Forte season, the charismatic performer returns to the island of Pico to present “Uma Mulher na Cidade,” her self-titled album.
Accompanied by the “contrabacia,” the double bass of the poor, played by Jean Marc Pablo, and the viola played by Sergio Prazeres, Miranda evokes her “Fado-Beat” sound in this performance with a simple and powerful acoustic format. The repertoire ranges from revisited fado classics and music from her album “Uma Mulher na Cidade” to some gems from “OqueStrada.”

“It’s always a success when a musical project returns to the island,” admits MiratecArts artistic director Terry Costa. “After a unique performance during the summer season at Forte de Santa Catarina, it made perfect sense to get these three exceptional musicians another stage on the mountain island, and so here we are at the Madalena Auditorium, inviting the whole island to join us on what promises to be a very warm and rich evening of sound.” The performance is supported by the Madalena City Council, the Regional Directorate for Culture, and the GDA Foundation.
The trio takes the stage at the Madalena Auditorium on Saturday, November 8, at 9 p.m. The ticket office at the Madalena Auditorium Library opens one hour before the show, and the public is invited to the closing of the exhibition “ooutropoema,” by and with artist Tiago Resende, on display in the space. The night before, MirAnda will perform at the Faialense Theater on the neighboring island of Faial.
