Artistic residency in the Azores

Between November 16 and 22, the island of Pico will host a new stage of Terra Incógnita. This project continues its journey of artistic residencies dedicated to sound and performance creation in dialogue with the natural territory of the Azores. In this edition, artists Luís Pestana and André Medeiros will be in residence on the island, exploring the landscape of Pico and its multiple sensory, affective, and symbolic dimensions.

On November 19, at 6:00 p.m., a conversation with the artists will take place in the auditorium of the Whalers Museum in Lajes do Pico, moderated by Germana Eiriz. This will be an event open to the public, dedicated to sharing processes, ideas, and experiences around artistic creation and listening to the territory.

The final presentation of the residency will take place on November 22, at 10:00 a.m. The proposal is to walk a trail on the island, with a soundtrack created for the purpose and a live performance at the end.

Luís Pestana is a Portuguese composer and sound creator. His work investigates the relationship between technology, memory, and imagination, situating itself between the sacred and the profane, between the digital and the organic.

André Baptista Medeiros, born in São Mateus, on the island of Pico, is a musician and composer specializing in keyboard instruments. Trained in piano and harpsichord at the Professional School of Arts of Covilhã (EPABI), his career draws on influences from classical, rock, jazz, and popular music.

Terra Incógnita proposes new ways to experience and reinterpret the natural territory of the Azores, combining art, ecology, and community. Through residencies, presentations, and public meetings, the project encourages attentive listening to the landscape and promotes dialogue between artistic practices and awareness.
