From Hugo Raposo’s workshop in São Miguel to the stage of the Madalena do Pico Auditorium, the luthier presented two new instruments to Terry Costa, the artistic director of MiratecArts and founder of the Cordas Festival.

“This presentation concludes the project we have with the Regional Directorate for Culture to support instruments,” notes Terry Costa, from the region’s largest stage. “After building the Portuguese Guitar, which has been in our collection for some time, we now have a Flamenco Guitar and a Brazilian Mandolin, built by one of the best in our region.”

“This guitar can accompany any program,” says Hugo Raposo, “while the mandolin is adapted with Portuguese characteristics, in addition to the traditional features of the Brazilian mandolin.”

The instruments in the MiratecArts collection are available for request by collaborating artists. “During the first year, the main objective is for performance, recording, and teachers who wish to present them in their classes,” explains Terry Costa, “later on, students also have the opportunity to request the instruments for their instruction. An instrument like this, besides being a teaching tool, is a work of art, and as such should be respected.”

The program for the tenth edition of the Cordas Festival continues until October 11. With its epicenter at the Madalena Auditorium Library, there are also concerts at the Madalena Mother Church, the Pico Wine Museum, Cella Bar, and the association’s headquarters, MiratecArts Galeria Costa.
