MEU SÃO JORGE DE AZULEJO

Ai meu São Jorge de azulejo!
Atento sobre um valente
lusitano do Alentejo,
lanceta o ego,
de meu dragão que voceja.
Vaza esse balão tão sobejo
ao puro azul d’ azulejo!
Aí sim, vou encontrar
a realidade tresmalhada
das coisas como elas são
na brancura dum lampejo.

SAINT GEORGE IN BLUE TILE
Capitão Sena Street, Santo Cristo, Rio de Janeiro
Oh, my Saint George,
of blue-tiled azulejo!
Perched atop a Lusitanian steed
from the wide plains of Alentejo,
Piercing the balloon-dragon
of pride inside my rib cage.
Vanquish this overblown desire
of the pure blue glazed tile.
Then, perhaps, I’ll glimpse
the stray truth, things just
as they are, in the white
that holds the blue
of the tile.
