The fourth season of “Música no Forte” at Forte de Santa Catarina in Lajes do Pico closes this Sunday, August 10, with the Lisbon trio Marta Miranda.
Marta Miranda is the unmistakable voice and figurehead of OqueStrada, a project that has become a benchmark for new Portuguese urban music. With her artistic partner, Jean Marc Pablo, she created one of Lisbon’s most dynamic venues, the “TascaBeat do Rosário.” In the Alfama neighborhood, she brought together traditional fado singers, audiences of all ages, and artists from different backgrounds. Miranda, who, in addition to music, also has a talent for bringing communities together with a common soul, reunites the companions of those legendary nights.
Accompanied by the “contrabacia,” the double bass of the poor, played by Jean Marc Pablo, and the viola by Sergio Prazeres, Miranda evokes in this performance her “Fado-Beat” sound with a simple and powerful acoustic format. The repertoire ranges from revisited fado classics to some songs from her new album “Uma Mulher na Cidade” (A Woman in the City), as well as some gems from “OqueStrada.”
The MiratecArts project, in partnership with the Municipality of Lajes do Pico, is supported by the Regional Directorate for Culture. This concert is made possible with the additional support of the GDA Foundation. The trio takes to the stage at the Santa Catarina Fort at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free. Summer is at the Fort!
