Based on the island of Pico in the Azores, Néveda Ent., a publisher of large-format illustrated books, made a big splash at the 13th Azores Fringe Festival and the 95th Lisbon Book Fair.
“More than 700 children on the islands of Pico, Faial, and São Miguel had the opportunity to interact with the books and the girl Néveda,” says Terry Costa, who personally hopped around rooms, schools, and islands this June. “From story time to reading, activities, and book sharing with preschoolers, elementary school students, and even vocational school students, I am able to lead programs for all ages with these colorful books, and that’s what happened during the Fringe.”
Néveda Ent added another book to its collection this June. Translated from Ukrainian, “O Carteiro” (The Postman) by Katerina Sad encourages conversation about professions. Also this month, the second edition of the book “O menino que queria ver a baleia-azul a passar nos Açores” (The boy who wanted to see the blue whale passing by the Azores) by Isabel Mateus and illustrated by Filipe Gomes arrived, which includes on the cover not only the AnimaPIX short story and illustration awards but also the LER Açores, Plano Regional de Leitura, and LER+ do Plano Nacional de Leitura seals.
These two books were featured at the Lisbon Book Fair last weekend, appearing on several stages, including Praça Azul and Casa da Cultura da Santa Casa da Misericórdia.
“Néveda is the most famous, and we are about to publish a third adventure with the character,” admits Terry Costa, ‘but her friends and colleagues, published in the collection, all had their moment at the Lisbon Book Fair, one of the most important events for the promotion of books in our country.’ www.nevedapico.com
