Pico Island Museum hosts Fringe performance and film festival

The Pico Museum is a strategic partner of the MiratecArts association and has welcomed artists from the Azores Fringe festival since its foundation. This year is no exception, with four performance events and four Shorts@Fringe sessions in the Whalers’ Museum Auditorium.

“Histórias Germinadas no Quintal” (Stories Sprouting in the Backyard) is a project consisting of three performances by artists Catarina Mota, Graça Ochoa, and Paulo Quedas. On Tuesday, May 20, at various times, the public is welcome to recall stories forgotten in our childhood memories and our elders’ memories. “We rummaged through them, opened drawers, trunks, and photo albums, which had been forgotten in some corner of the backyard. How do we look today at the life stories of our grandparents?” A program for all ages with “The Story of a Clothesline and a Grandmother Who Couldn’t Read,” “The Grandmother Who Wasn’t a Grandmother,” and “Lullaby.”

On Tuesday, May 27, the São Miguel team Rodopio d’ideias and Símbolo Simbólico come to Pico to present ”The Last Dive.” A game between reality and fiction. A screen, the sea, and a woman preparing to take her last dive. An invitation to think deeply and humorously about our relationship with the liquid state. The multidisciplinary duo, Carlota Blanc and Maria João Sousa, will perform in the late afternoon at 6 p.m.

The Shorts@Fringe film sessions are scheduled for May 20, 27, and 28 at 9 p.m., with an animated film session on the 28th at 2 p.m. Admission is free—it’s Fringe! For more information, visit azoresfringe.com and follow the festival on Facebook: azoresfringefestival.
