The Lusophone Colloquium will be held in Lajes das Flores from April 23 to 27 and has 40 participants, the organization said in a press release. The 40th Lusophone Colloquium will pay a posthumous tribute to Helena Chrystello, vice-president of the International Association of Lusophone Colloquia (AICL). This year’s featured author is Aníbal Pires.
“In addition to the Azorean Humor Anthology, which Helena had left unfinished and Aníbal Pires completed, we will be promoting ‘O silêncio da paixão’, his unpublished novel from 1976, and we will have the first presentation of the 8th volume of ‘ChrónicA- çores, Diário de um homem só’, by Chrys Chrystello, dedicated to her, along with the offer of the poetry libretto ’29 poemas, 29 anos’,” the organization said.
The program includes a panel on April 25th (Carnation Revolution), featuring Francisco Madruga, Alexandre Borges, and Chrys Chrystello.
There will also be a round table discussion on “Reasons to stay alive in 2025 (What do you believe in today? What’s left to believe in today?)”. There will be a dozen literary launches, featuring an exhibition of books by the authors present, sponsored by the Letras Lavadas publishing house. The event will also include two music sessions, three poetry sessions, a session with local artists, and videos of Flores interspersed between the sessions. The program also consists of 20 presentations on regional themes and authors, such as: “José Jacinto Xavier da Silveira, Sergeant Major of Ordnance and Acting Military Commander of Flores and Corvo, and his description of Flores 1823-1832”, by Manuel Menezes de Sequeira; “The Pedro da Silveira – João Afonso correspondence”, by Vasco Rosa, and “Discovery and settlement of Flores – according to the grandmother of Frei Diogo das Chagas”, by Anabela Freitas. Gabriela Silva talks about “Flores,” and Urbano Bettencourt talks about “Alfred Lewis, modo(s) de regresso.” “Thomas L. De Freitas – a florentine writer in Idaho” is the title of Onésimo Teotónio de Almeida’s presentation. Vasco Rosa presents ‘Literary essays by Pedro da Silveira’, a book co-published by the National Library and Letras Lavadas.
