Azoreran artist Gonçalo Sousa has a new album titled “Crisálida.”

The artist Gonçalo Sousa, known in the music world as THE BRAIN, released a new album entitled “Crisálida” on March 14. It’s a project with the collaboration of several artists from São Miguel, such as Dusk and NIGGY.

The album was already presented in Ribeira Grande, and last Saturday, April 19, it was also presented at the Club Motard Independent in the parish of Faja de Cima, Ponta Delgada, as part of an initiative by the Basalto Cultural Arts Association.

According to a press release sent out by the cultural association, THE BRAIN will present its work, accompanied by DJ Amorim, and will also include other surprises.

As an artist, Gonçalo Sousa’s trajectory in the world of Azorean music over the past seven years has led him to release an album and an EP, in which he explores diverse musical strands and builds his artistic identity.

For the Micaelense artist, “Crisálida” symbolizes a process of transformation and evolution, like that of the caterpillar that encloses itself in its cocoon to become a butterfly. The artist also sees artistic creation as a protection against adversity, including the bullying he says he has faced throughout his life, right up to the young adult stage. Throughout the album, he explores themes such as the impact that public opinion can have on artists.

The artist expresses himself about the comments and criticisms that sometimes affect the creative process, showing a vulnerability that is not always easy to share, and also reflects on the lack of unity between artists in São Miguel.

“Crisálida” is thus a reflection of personal evolution, both as an artist and as a person. Each track represents a step in this metamorphosis, showing that his art is deeply connected to who he is.
