CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF BOOKS
Yesterday, April 16, I began celebrating 50 years of my literary life with friends at a special session dedicated to Freedom from 3 to 4. It was on this day, in 1975, that I presented my first little book, “The Age of Fire.”
The celebrations will continue at the Book Fair; at the Portimão International Literary Festival; on June 28th, where I’ll be launching my new novel, “O Menino do Elefante”, at the São Luiz Theater and about which I’ll be giving more information soon; at the FLO – FEstival Literário de Ovar, in September; at the Trois-Rivières International Poetry Festival in Quebec, Canada, in October; in California, where I’ll be launching two books, also in October; and I’ll end the celebrations with the presentation, in Paris, of my novel, “Commedia”, which will be published by Obsidiane in February or March 2026.
Fifty years that haven’t been easy, but I wouldn’t swap them for other hypothetical or obscure ones. They lived in Freedom with the awareness that we live in a time when we have to defend it from the attacks of neo-fascist organizations, whether in Portugal, Europe, or the United States.
Long live freedom!
