The first film by director Luís Filipe Borges, “First Date”, received its Asian premiere simultaneously at the Tamizhagam and Rohip film festivals in India, and was awarded the Honorable Mention and Best International Short Film prizes, respectively.
“I’m moved to the core by the news coming out of India about ‘First Date’,” says director Luís Filipe Borges. “The image of people in such faraway places watching, enjoying and rewarding my first film is material for the best kind of dreams: those we have while awake.”
Thus began the international tour of the short film shot on the island of Pico, with the participation of the three municipalities of Lajes do Pico, Madalena and São Roque do Pico.
The film’s producers, MiratecArts and Advogado do Diabo, are eagerly awaiting the next confirmations of screenings at international festivals, as well as the national premiere, adding that the American premiere already has a host city, New Bedford, which will take place in April.
Santiago and Melissa flirt on a social network. She loves Romana Petri, the author of books set on the island of Pico. He desperately wants to meet her. “What if we met there? That’s where I live!”. The young American accepts the challenge. Now the Lisbon man, who has posed as an Azorean, has a beautiful dilemma to solve… so begins this humorous romantic short film, set against the beautiful backdrop of Portugal’s highest mountain island.
