“Portuguese on Hitler’s Black List” to be presented in Ponta Delgada-Azores.

The Sahar Hassamaim Hebrew Museum, also known as the Ponta Delgada Synagogue, will host the launch of the book “Portuguese on Hitler’s Black List” by Miriam Assor on January 27 at 6pm to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
This book is the result of an unprecedented 10-year investigation into the Portuguese Jews who were victims of Nazi totalitarianism and addresses issues ranging from their origins to their lives and journeys, revealing a little-known and ignored page of the Portuguese people’s history during the dark times of the Second World War.
Without forgetting the circumstances and conditions of their transportation to concentration and extermination camps and how many were mercilessly murdered, journalist Miriam Assor also tackles the memories of the few who survived the Holocaust in this book, with stories told by them or their descendants.
Miriam Assor was born in Lisbon on June 13, 1966, into an Orthodox Jewish family and has a degree in Psychology and Communication.
The author entered the world of journalism with the weekly “O Independente,” and since then, has collaborated with various periodicals as a freelance journalist, having distinguished herself by writing journalistic pieces related to the Shoah published in Sábado magazine. She is also the author of several works, including “Aristides de Sousa Mendes – A Righteous Man Against the Current”, “Illustrious Jews of Portugal” and “Journey into the Secrets of Freemasonry”.
Also, as part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the Ponta Delgada Synagogue, a conference is planned for the same day, exclusively for students from the municipality of Ponta Delgada, which will address the events that marked the end of World War II and the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, which took place on January 27, 1945.
