As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the University of the Azores (UAc), the “AFAA Photography Prize” exhibition, promoted by the Azores Amateur Photographers Association (AFAA), will be inaugurated. According to a statement sent by the UAc, this event celebrates the creativity and talent of AFAA members and highlights the importance of photographic art in the region.
The exhibition’s opening is scheduled for January 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Exhibition Room, located next to UAc’s Aula Magna in Ponta Delgada. It will be open to the public until February 28, “offering a tribute to the art of photography and an invitation to explore the multiple perspectives it can reveal.”
The exhibition stems from the first edition of the AFAA Photo Prize, a biennial competition launched in 2020, the fruit of a long-held dream of the association, which aims to challenge participants to tell stories through photography. Consisting of 12 freely-themed triptychs, the exhibition reflects the diversity of techniques and artistic approaches explored by the photographers involved in the exhibition, the press release explains.
The same press release concludes that this initiative marks UAc’s 50th anniversary and reinforces the importance of the dialog between the Azorean Academy and local cultural agents.
