Rafael Fonseca’s first film premieres at Montanha Pico Festival

The eleventh edition of the Montanha Pico Festival continues until January 30, on Tuesdays at the Whalers Museum Auditorium and Thursdays at the Lajes do Pico Municipal Auditorium.

The next Portuguese-language screening takes place this Thursday, January 9. Works by Bruno Ferreira, Paulo Fajardo, Rafael Duarte, Karina Oliani, Juliette Menthonnex, Leila Sobral, and Rafael Fonseca’s first film hit the municipal screen in Lajes do Pico at 9pm.

On a small hill just outside the village of Gerês, called Penedo da Freira, there is a gravestone that seems to indicate a place of passion between a Portuguese nun and a Castilian soldier at the end of the 18th century. The legend described on this stone becomes the focus of obsession for a young director who will immerse a couple of actors in it.

Born in Faro, Rafael Fonseca has a degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He was a trainee at the Cinemateca Portuguesa and has worked on various television, theater, and film projects.

“Quorum” is Rafael Fonseca’s first film and will premiere at the Montanha Pico Festival with the director present. For more information, visit picofestival.com and join Facebook: Montanha Pico Festival.
