Edition #13 of the Azores Fringe arts festival accepts proposals until January

Fringe means “on the fringe” in Portuguese. The concepts of Fringe festivals worldwide are inspired by the Edinburgh International Festival, a Scottish showcase that began in 1947. Today, there are around 300 festivals worldwide, and a network of platforms supports the showcasing of art and artists.

The Azores Fringe Festival was founded by Terry Costa for MiratecArts in 2013 and, without interruption, is already preparing its thirteenth edition for 2025. With its roots in performance and visual art, artists present shows, exhibitions, workshops, and other actions of artistic culture, ranging from theaters to the street. Fringe is a display of color and artistic excitement to showcase talents and projects. The Festival creates opportunities for artists to invest in the development of their art and for audiences to venture into new territories.

Artist César Martiniano designed the promotional image that follows the festival’s motto: an artistic explosion from the Azores to the world. A regular contributor to MiratecArts in various capacities, the artist has traveled to various corners of the world, from New York to Berlin, and this autumn at the Academy of Arts in Praia da Vitória, showing his paintings in exhibitions. He also dedicates himself to graphic design.

The proposal document for artists to take part in the Azores Fringe Festival is available online at azoresfringe.com. Proposals are accepted until January 2025. The festival is scheduled to take place from May 16 to June, passing through the nine islands of the Azores, with its epicenter on the island of Pico.
