The little girl “Néveda” has traveled around the world in a paper airplane and, a second time, in a teleport. These are the stories of the first two books published by Néveda Ent, a publishing house based on the island of Pico, Azores.
In the real world, the creator of the character “Néveda,” Terry Costa, has taken her on many business trips to cities worldwide, in 40 countries. From Canada to Japan, Uruguay to Qatar, South Africa to Australia, and on Saturday, October 19, she arrived in Paris after having toured five cities on the Côte d’Azur in France last spring. The Librairie Portugaise et Brésilienne hosted the presentation, and bookshop #250 featured this adventure of the character inspired by the flower of the plant Calamintha nepeta, better known as nêveda.

Paris received the French-Portuguese version of the book, “Néveda aux Açores,” and Terry Costa also talked about the islands, answering questions from those who visited. Among the onlookers was Hermano Sanches Ruivo, Conseiller of the City of Paris, who expressed the importance of this kind of work and the need to get support to continue.
Illustrated by Vera Bettencourt, Néveda’s books can be found in bookshops across the country and online at nevedapico.com – where you can buy the original edition in Portuguese and English and French, Spanish, and Italian editions. The reissue of the first hardcover book is now available and will be officially presented at the AnimaPIX festival, which will be held in December on the island of Pico.
Translated to English as a community outreach program from the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) and the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures Department (MCLL) as part of Bruma Publication and ADMA (Azores-Diaspora Media Alliance) at California State University, Fresno, PBBI thanks the Luso-American Education Foundation for sponsoring FILAMENTOS.
