
On October 10, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. in the Church of São José in Ponta Delgada, a conference will be held, open to the public, with the theme “Rescuing Heritage,” as part of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Convent of São Francisco, according to a note sent to Sítio Igreja Açores.
Daniela Melo, Master in Conservation and Restoration, and Vasco Santos, Graduate in Conservation and Restoration, both senior Conservation and Restoration technicians at the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive, and Paulo Brasil, Graduate in Conservation and Restoration, with a specialization in Heritage, Museology and Development and Conservation and Restoration of Sculpture, Conservation and Restoration Technician, will be the speakers.
The first two speakers will discuss “ Preservating Documents at the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive,” and Paulo Brasil will discuss “What the eye cannot see, science reveals, and restoration discovers.”
The conference will be preceded by a musical performance by the São José Choir and organist Isabel Albergaria Sousa.
The celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Convent of São Francisco is part of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Diocese of Angra.
The celebrations are highly patronized by the President of the Republic and the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, and the Honorary Committee is chaired by the Bishop of Angra, D. Armando Esteves Domingues.
