On October 12, at 5:30 p.m., conductor Martim Sousa Tavares will present his first book “Falar Piano e Tocar Francês – Arte, cultura e Humanismo na Era dos Memes” (Speaking Piano and Playing French – Art, Culture and Humanism in the Age of Memes), published by Livros Zigurate, at the Luís de Camões Auditorium in Ponta Delgada.
The event, organized by Letras Lavadas in partnership with the Ponta Delgada Regional Conservatory, will also feature a lecture by the author, which promises to be an enriching reflection on the importance of beauty in its various forms and meanings. Martim Sousa Tavares’ work, which explores the relationship between beauty, the arts, and modern life, will be the starting point for the author to share his personal and professional perspectives. The audience will be invited to embark on a journey through the universe of the arts, where beauty is seen from various perspectives.

In the book “Speaking Piano and Playing French”, Martim Sousa Tavares, drawing on his personal experience as an artist and communicator, proposes a reflection on how we relate to art in its many expressions: a scene from a movie by João César Monteiro, the subtleties of a Mahler score or his fixation on Venice, a city he returns to every year. Beauty may not need an instruction book, but art is a form of sharing where the enthusiasm of mediation adds meaning and expands horizons. In this sense, this first book by Martim Sousa Tavares – taking on board the author’s tastes and not trying to be consensual – takes the reader on a journey in which all things are seen as new.
