Batimento Dúo is an instrumental project formed by Ignacio Correa and Andrés Rey, which explores the sonic possibilities and expressiveness of the guitar ensemble. Taking Uruguayan regional music as their starting point, they approach musical practice from different points of view, focusing on the Río de la Plata style of tango, waltz, and milonga. With original arrangements and a personal vision from the musicians, the repertoire is due above all to the link that the works have with Uruguay, either through the composers, lyricists, or their creations and themes closely linked to the territory, claiming the importance of the country within tango and music as a factor in the cultural integration of the region.

As a musician, Ignacio Correa has specialized in deepening the link between academia and the popular, reaching stages in all four corners of the world. Andrés Rey has a degree in music performance from the Universidad de Música de la UdelaR in Uruguay and a master’s degree in interpretation from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. Since the Montevideo International Guitar Festival, Batimento Dúo has played at major festivals in South America, the UK, Finland, and Russia. This October, his tour of the Iberian Peninsula starts with a concert at the Madalena Auditorium on Thursday, October 3, at 9pm.
The Cordas Festival takes place from October 1 to 13, with 40 events throughout the municipality of Madalena, Pico Island, Azores. For more information, visit festivalcordas.com and join MiratecArts’ social networks.
