On September 14, at 5pm, the Caloura Cultural Center will open a solo exhibition, “A Costela de Eva, ” by Luís Miguel Cordeiro.
This exhibition, supported by the Lagoa Municipal Council, will be open until November 9. Its public opening hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This is the artist’s first exhibition of some of the works he has been developing over the last few years. The creations develop from an urgency to create. They celebrate spontaneous creativity, the use of unusual materials, and the female figure almost as an agent of this liberation, not always in a figurative way, perhaps even fragmented or completely abstract. Some works transport us to the universe of pop art, with expressive colors and a lot of saturation.
Paula Mota co-curated the exhibition. It is also part of the “Open Studios” program of the Walk&Talk event, which takes place annually in the Azores archipelago. Throughout its 10 editions, the event has welcomed over a hundred artists from multiple geographical and disciplinary origins through a program of artist residencies. It acts as a network and co-produces with similar structures, promoting an environment conducive to exchange and co-creation and, from the Azores, imagining new centralities for contemporary artistic production.
Luís Miguel Cordeiro was born in 1980 in Ponta Delgada, where he currently lives. He has a degree in Physiotherapy from the Faculty of Oporto and a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Lisbon. He attended painting classes with Paula Mota and Gregory LeLay, in Ponta Delgada, some training workshops such as “Quimigrama”, at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes, and creative painting ateliers. Since 2003, she has produced works using various materials freely and experimentally. This is his first exhibition and includes works from that year to today.
The Caloura Cultural Center is a unique space in the archipelago dedicated to contemporary art, founded and managed by Tomaz Vieira.
