MiratecArts SURREABSURDO continues at Cella Bar on Pico Island – Azores

The season of performance, art, and conversation – SURREABSURDO, continues at one of the most iconic venues on the island of Pico, Cella Bar. After opening on the 6th, the program continues every Friday in September.

“This is a program for adventurers,” explains Terry Costa, the artistic director of MiratecArts, who leads the next night with ‘O Sermão’, by the Spaniard Fernando Arrabal. On the 20th, the director will be accompanied musically by Daniel Pena, Mariana Timóteo Paixão, and Nelson Luís Ribeiro. Last Friday, we saw the recreation of the interview between Harold Pinter and Nicholas Hern, with Manuel Azevedo joining them on stage.

Last Friday, the evening consisted of three acts. “Women laughing alone with salad” brought Carina Nunes, Cláudia Melo, Daria Kolesnik, Diana Zimbron, Faith Kinge, Ludmilla Soares, and flutist Catarina Costa to the stage. The second act welcomed the duo Ernesto and Guilherme Rodrigues, one of the most prolific on the Portuguese music scene, known for their innovative approach to free improvisation. In the third act, an image was constructed inspired by women’s writings from the new generation of absurdism, Alice Birch, Jackie Sibblies Drury, Ruby Rae Spiegel, and Sheila Callaghan, entitled “Anatomy of Suicide #2”.

The doors are open, and admission is free every Friday in September, 9 p.m., in the Cella Bar lounge. In October and November, the season continues at the Biblioteca Auditório da Madalena. For more details, visit miratecarts.com and join MiratecArts’ social networks.
