The cultural activity and the record number of books published by this Publishing House and BookStore are truly impressive, We highly recommend a visit to the bookstore in Ponta Delgada and if you are visiting any other island in the Azores look for their books at the various arts and crafts and other variety stores.
Building on the theme of the recent Olympics in Paris, Letras Lavadas reminded us that in 2023 they published 73 books. This is astonishing for an archipelago with less than 250 thousand people.

In association with the cultural activities of the city of Ponta Delgada, the Azores Military Museum and Livraria Letras Lavadas are promoting the II Book Fair at Forte de São Brás, between August 13 and 17, with the exception of August 15, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. 📚🛍

The book “As Mais Belas Lendas dos Açores” (The Most Beautiful Legends of the Azores) is like an enchanted chest, where the fantasy of children and teenagers will be delighted by the sweet telling of thirty of the most beautiful legends of the nine Azorean islands. 🧡
📚The book is on sale now. Although in Portuguese, we hope to see this book in English in the near future.

One of the most beautiful novels in the world is coming out soon.
Now in Portuguese!
“News from Nowhere” is a prose work by William Morris, published serially in The Commonweal in 1890 and as a book later the same year.
Most of the work consists of a vision of England in the year 2090 presented as a dream of William Guest, a thin disguise for Morris himself. Poverty, misery, and the ugliness of factories have vanished, along with money, the legal system, and government itself; labor, art, and nature are ennobled. Those improvements prove to have been brought about by a violent socialist revolution.
“News from Nowhere” is the best-known novel of William Morris and the only significant English utopia to be written since Thomas More’s. (from a description on Amazon)
