Folk Festival on Terceira Island

Eleven foreign groups are taking part in the 38th edition of Folk Azores – International Folklore Festival of the Azores, which takes place in Terceira between August 11 and 18.
Peru, Montenegro, and North Macedonia are the newcomers to this international event, considered to be the biggest in the country and an international benchmark of its kind. Also taking part in the festival are Argentina, Bulgaria, Chile, Slovakia, Spain, France, Poland and Romania.
This year’s edition features the special participation of the Doze Ribeiras Folkloric Group, which is celebrating 50 years of activity and is representing Portugal at the event.
The big novelty this year is the 18th Crafts and Traditional Flavors Fair, which will be held in the Cerrado do Bailão showground, with daily performances by folklore groups from Terceira, as well as foreign groups.
As in earlier years, the International Folklore Galas will also be held at the Angrense Theatre, with all the foreign groups. Access to the shows, on August 13, 14, and 16, will cost three euros.
The groups will also parade on the last day of the Praia Festivities and in Angra do Heroísmo, on August 15th.
On the 17th, at the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Sports Pavilion, the Musics of the World, the Interaction of Dances, Folklore on the Catwalk, and the first presentation of the Folk Azores Orchestra, made up of musicians from the participating groups, are scheduled to take place.
Folk Azores ends on August 18, with the closing show at the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Sports Pavilion.
The festival is organized by COFIT – Comité Organizador de Festivais Internacionais da Ilha Terceira.
