The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, attended the public presentation of the book “A Lapinha de Francisco Ferreira—O Caseiro” this Tuesday at the Madeira Ethnographic Museum.
The work, published by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture through the Regional Directorate for Culture, was coordinated by Ana Margarida Araújo Camacho, author of the texts together with Lídia Góes Ferreira, based on research carried out by the former and by Carolina Ferreira, Catarina Andrade, Helena Sousa, Margarida Freitas (Team from the Frederico de Freitas House Museum – CMFF), César Ferreira and Lídia Góes Ferreira (Team from the Madeira Ethnographic Museum – MEM).
The Regional Secretary occasionally began by thanking Francisco Ferreira’s family for preserving this lapin and accepting the Regional Government’s proposal to acquire it. He also stressed the importance of this book, which has been published, mainly because it brought together two museums, a networking effort he valued.

It should be remembered that the Lapinha was acquired by the Regional Government in 2015 to integrate and enrich the collection of the Madeira Ethnographic Museum. Once the inventory and restoration processes had been completed and the collection had been transferred to the Madeira Ethnographic Museum, its permanent exhibition was inaugurated in 2021.
Since then, the “Lapinha do Caseiro” has been open to the public every year, only during the Christmas season, as used to be the case.
