Natália Correia – Centennial

As part of the commemoration of the centennial of Natália Correia and as way of bringing her works to an American audience, especially those who are of Portuguese ancestry, every week through the Cátedra Natália Correia at PBBI-Fresno State, we bring a poem, an excerpt from one of her many writings, in translation. It has been a weekly event that will continue at least until September of 2024.

Poetry:

oh eve of prodigy!

IV

I believe in the angels who walk the world,

I believe in the goddess with diamond eyes,

I believe in moonlit loves with a piano in the background,

I believe in legends, in fairies, in Atlanteans,

I believe in an ingenuity that lacks more fruitfulness

Of harmonizing the dissonant parts,

I believe everything is eternal in a second,

I believe in a future heaven that existed before,

I believe in the gods of a purer astral,

In the humble flower that leans against the wall,

I believe in the flesh that bewitches the beyond,

I believe in the incredible, in amazing things,

In the occupation of the world by roses,

I believe that Love has wings of gold. Amem.
