This Saturday in Praia da Vitóriam, during the Outono Vivo Literary Festival, the renowned literary critic Vamberto Freitas will launch his new collection of essays.
As written, Vamberto Freitas, a prominent literary critic from the Azores, is celebrated for his influential contributions to the world of literature. Born in Terceira Island, Vaberto lived in the United States for 27 years in Southern California before returning to the Azores. Freitas has passionately advocated for Azorean and Portuguese literature, focusing on the Azorean-American and Azorean-Canadian experience. He is a dedicated scholar and writer. His works span a wide array of themes, with a particular focus on the unique cultural and literary heritage of the Azores. His critical analyses and essays have shed light on the rich traditions and contemporary developments in Azorean literature, providing valuable insights for scholars and enthusiasts of Azorean literary works, including being the sole person responsible for the introduction of many American and Canadian writers to the Azorean readers and Portuguese readers in general. Even in the lusophone countries, from Brasil to Angola, many North-American writers with Azorean roots are known because of his literary criticism.

Vamberto Freitas’ impact extends beyond his written works, as he has also played a pivotal role in fostering literary connections and promoting Azorean authors on the international stage. Through his support for emerging writers, he has contributed significantly to the preservation and dissemination of Azorean literary culture. Freitas’ dedication to his craft and his commitment to nurturing the literary landscape of the Azores has solidified his place as a respected literary figure in both the Azores, the Azorean Diaspora, and the broader Lusophone World.
