Arquipélago – Centro de Artes Contemporâneas will be showing the new exhibition by Azorean artist Urbano – a show that marks his 40-year career, in what will also be his 50th solo exhibition.

According to a press release from Arquipélago, the exhibition “De Natura Maris” will begin on October 14 at 5 p.m. in the city of Ribeira Grande, in São Miguel island.

In this exhibition, Urbano continues to explore the field of painting but aims to broaden the artist’s lexicon and demonstrate that his practice is also crossed by engraving, ceramics, books, and even three-dimensional painting.

The press release adds that for over a month, the Azorean artist was in residence at ‘Arquipélago,’ developing a new series of works that allowed him to return to the large scale.

The exhibition will consist of this new body of work and will be punctuated by other older works, most of which have never been seen in São Miguel before or which will be exhibited for the first time.

The organizers also say that this show is a mixture of novelty and retrospectives, a journey between various series of the artist’s work. It is undoubtedly critical to highlight Urbano’s mastery and for the public to meet his work again.
