Sam Pereira received his BA from California State University, Fresno and his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Along with close to 50 years of poetry to his credit, he also taught English for more than two decades and has recently retired. He lives in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley, along with his wife, Susan. Also along for the ride is Marley, a Maltepoo genius street dog, who has mastered the manipulation of the human heart.

Praise for True North and Untrue You:
Sam Pereira is a luminous poet. In True North and Untrue You the reader navigates through a myriad of themes filled with stunning imagery, piercing wit and profound emotions. A truly sublime lyricism that engages, surprises and liberates. A collection of radiant poems that bite and uplift.
—Diniz Borges, director of the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute at California State University, Fresno

from a reader online:
If you are a poetry lover or love a good turn of phrase in any form, or merely love anything, buy True North and Untrue You.
With bows to his love and to other poets and nods to the political realm, Pereira is of our times but for the ages. He delights on every page.
Revealing and sweet phrases (“countless rainbows of trout,” “the music smells like roses,” and “holding on to someone equally alone,’) sparkle throughout the book.
Pereira makes me want to write or, perhaps, makes me realize I cannot write at all and so I merely go on to re-read another of his poems. Equally masterful, fun and compelling.
