Cristóvam was born amongst the deep blue of the Atlantic and the lush green of the beautiful Azores islands in Portugal.
He is the grandson of a radio pioneer who left behind a massive record collection and a big pile of radio paraphernalia. Growing up, he would listen to 7″ records on his father’s old jukebox. The likes of Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, and Supertramp, among many other greats, would spin all day, creating landscapes in his young mind, a refuge from the world outside and a portal to his own world. Such a passion eventually led him to want to start writing his own songs.
His music is Azorean at heart, with Americana overtones.

In 2015, he started writing his debut solo album “Hopes & Dreams” and just one year later, his first single “Walk in the Rain” would be released and featured in the Portuguese blockbuster “A Canção de Lisboa“.
In 2018 “Hopes & Dreams” was released, and in that same year, he won 1st prize at the International Songwriting Competition.
In the next two years, he would tour various countries, sharing stages with artists like Stu Larsen, Tim Hart (Boy & Bear), and Scott Matthews, among many others.
He was starting to work on his second record when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, and, as a natural reaction to what was happening, Cristóvam wrote the song “Andrà Tutto Bene” and sent it to his friend and director Pedro Varela. Pedro loved it and made a compelling film with footage of worldwide events. The video would become viral, with more than 3 million views on YouTube and closing TV newscasts worldwide. The song became a hit and aired in more than 400 radios worldwide.

Cristóvam signed a record deal with V2 Records in August of that year.
In October, he was awarded 2 International Portuguese Music Awards (Best Pop Act & Song of the Year) and released “Setting Sun”, his first single with V2.
The single came out with an impressive video shot in the Azores. The track held great praise in the international press, with Earmilk stating:
-“Big, sweeping soundscapes, shimmering instrumentation, and warm, soulful vocals combine to create an inspiring and heartwarming track. Cristóvam has found the perfect
measure of singer/songwriter and indie/folk, mixing the two to craft something that has allure and authenticity while keeping it upbeat and lighthearted.”
In February 2021 he released “The Spin (Acoustic)“, a song that would mark the beginning of a strong collaboration with Tim Hart (singer-songwriter and drummer for Boy & Bear).
He released “Love, Be On My Side” one month later. Another very well-received single in the press earned these words from Atwood Magazine:
-“Cristóvam is one to watch and listen to for some soothing folky, smoky goodness.”

“Setting Sun“, “The Spin (Acoustic)” and “Love, Be On My Side” gained a lot of Spotify traction and earned Cristóvam a place in the global artist spotlight by Rolling Stone India.

In May 2021, when The Cagarro Colloquium, a community of North American writers with Azorean ties, was formed, this talented young musician was the featured singer for the event.

We hope to see Cristóvam at future events within the Azorean Diaspora in North America.
